Hi, we’re Scott and Jen.
In 2009, we moved to Yakima, Washington, and began what would become 17 years in commercial fruit-tree pollination.
During that time, we harvested, processed, and supplied pollen for apple, cherry, pear, and apricot orchards. We worked closely with growers throughout the season and saw firsthand how much goes into getting a good crop—from bloom and weather to timing, bee activity, and having the right pollen available when it’s needed.
In 2025, we decided to step away from commercial pollen production and distribution. But Jen still wanted to find a way to serve backyard growers. She has always loved gardening and especially enjoyed helping home growers when we ran the commercial side of the business.
That became the starting point for a new direction for PollenPro.
Pollen for backyard growers
Most commercial pollen is sold in quantities meant for orchards, not someone with one or two trees in the backyard. We saw an opportunity to offer it in practical amounts, along with clear information about choosing the right type, storing it properly, and knowing when and how to use it.
Home growers also have an advantage that simply isn’t practical on a commercial scale: they can be precise.
In a large orchard, pollen may be blown into the trees, with honeybees doing much of the work of carrying it onto receptive flowers. With only a few trees, you can walk right up with a brush and place compatible, viable pollen directly onto freshly opened blossoms yourself. When the weather and bloom conditions cooperate, that direct approach gives those blossoms an excellent chance of being successfully pollinated and setting fruit.
But supplying pollen is only part of what we're excited about.

Bringing orchard knowledge home
Over the years, we’ve developed friendships with professional growers who have spent decades working in orchards. There is an incredible amount of knowledge in that experience, and we want to make as much of that information available as possible to people growing fruit at home.
So we’re sitting down with growers we know and asking questions.
- How do they approach pruning?
- What do they watch for during bloom?
- How do they thin fruit, manage pests, and keep their trees healthy?
- What have they learned after decades in the orchard that could help someone growing just a few trees at home?
We take the parts of those conversations that may be useful to home growers, research the subject further, and turn what we learn into clear, readable Growing Guides.
A backyard with three trees is very different from an orchard with thousands, so the goal isn’t to simply copy commercial practices. We want to understand the principles behind what experienced growers do and explain how those ideas can be useful on a smaller scale.
We want you to read our articles, feel empowered, and think, “I can do that.”
